What Is Considered Solar Energy?

Article by Elnora Clardy

It’s as crucial to learn the “history” of solar energy along with “what solar technology is,” as well as the important role which now plays in our own individual lives together with our environment.

Everyone has harnessed solar technology for hundreds of years. As early as the 7th century B.C., people used simple magnifying glasses to concentrate the light from the sun into beams so hot they’d cause wood to trap fire. Over 100 years ago in France, a scientist used heat originating from a solar panel to generate steam to get a steam engine. In the early stages of this century, scientists and engineers began researching ways to use solar power in earnest. This started in the early 1920s and was at full swing just before World War 2. This growth lasted prior to the mid-1950s when low-cost gas took over as primary fuel for heating American homes. The public and world governments remained largely indifferent on the possibilities of solar technology prior to the oil shortages of the 1970s. Today, people use solar power to heat buildings and water in order to generate electricity.

What Exactly Is SOLAR ENERGY?Solar energy is radiant energy that is created by the sun. Each day, the sun’s rays radiates or sends out an enormous amount of energy. The sun radiates more energy in one second than people have used since the beginning of time! Where does the energy derive from that constantly radiates through the sun? It comes down from the inside of the sun itself. Like other stars, the sun is a large ball of gases which consist of mostly hydrogen and helium atoms. The hydrogen atoms in the sun combine to build helium and generate energy in a process called nuclear fusion. During nuclear fusion, the sun’s extremely high pressure and temperature cause hydrogen atoms to get apart along with their nuclei (the central cores of the atoms) to fuse or combine. Four hydrogen nuclei fuse to get one helium atom though, the helium atom contains less mass versus four hydrogen atoms that fused. Some matter is lost during nuclear fusion and this lost matter is emitted into space as radiant energy. It needs countless years for the energy in the sun’s core to make its system to the solar surface, after which a bit over eight minutes to travel 93 million miles to earth. Solar energy travels towards the earth at a speed of 186,000 miles per second, the speed of light.

Merely a small portion of the energy radiated from the sun into space strikes the earth, one part in two billion, yet this number of energy is enormous. Daily enough energy strikes the United States to deliver the nation’s energy needs for one and a half years! Where does all this energy go? About fifteen percent of the sun’s energy that hits the planet is reflected back to space. Another 30 percent is used to evaporate water, which is lifted to the atmosphere and produces rainfall. Solar energy also is absorbed by plants, the land, and the oceans. What’s left would be utilized to supply our energy needs.

Anaglyph image

Article by hi joiney

History The first method to produce anaglyph images was developed 1853 by Wilhelm Rollmann a German in Leipzig Producing anaglyph images In historical methods using camera filters on film two images from the perspective of the left and right eyes were projected or printed together as a single image one side through a red filter and the other side through a contrasting color such as blue or green or mixed cyan As outlined below one may now typically use an image processing computer program to simulate the effect of using color filters using as a source image a pair of either color or monochrome images Since the 1970s Stephen Gibson offers his patented Deep Vision system using cyan instead of green filters These colors cover the entire visible spectrum providing more natural color Deep Vision spectacles have the red filter over the right eye and the cyan over the left To bypass Gibson s patent some companies produce red cyan glasses with the colors on the wrong sides Popular professional programs such as Adobe Photoshop provide the basic digital tools for processing of anaglyphs They do not provide instruction for anaglyph in their basic documentation Various websites offer free instruction related to 3D for Photoshop Simple low cost programs dedicated to anaglyph creation are also available In recent simple practice the left eye image is filtered to remove blue green The right eye image is filtered to remove red The two images are usually positioned in the compositing phase in close overlay registration of the main subject In Photoshop for example a function called screen in the layers F7 option allows the two filtered layers to be combined transparently on top of each other although the compositing can also be done by pasting the selected channels The filtration itself can easily be done in the curves function which allows removal of any red green or blue layer with a simple slider Experienced Photoshop users can sometime process a good cross view 3D pair into a color anaglyph in 2 to 5 minutes if little fine tuning is required Various steps can also be used to maximize the quality of the result These may include size matching of the frames to within a few pixels rotation if needed gamma leveling and digital sharpening of the softer red image It should be noted that both the red layer in the image and the red filter in the glasses contain no visible blue or green color information but masked colors do exist that the eyes cannot see through a red filter that can interact with the colors contained in the cyan image after compositing and blending How anaglyph works Viewing anaglyphs through appropriately colored glasses results in each eye seeing a slightly different picture In a red blue anaglyph for instance the eye covered by the red filter sees the red parts of the image as white and the blue parts as black with the brain providing some adaption for color the eye covered by the blue filter perceives the opposite effect True white or true black areas are perceived the same by each eye The brain blends together the image it receives from each eye and interprets the differences as being the result of different distances This creates a normal stereograph image without requiring the viewer to cross his or her eyes Viewing Paper anaglyph filters produce an acceptable image at low cost and are suitable for inclusion in magazines A pair of eyeglasses with two filters of the same colors once used on the cameras or now simulated by image processing software manipulations is worn by the viewer In the case above the red lens over the left eye allows only the red part of the anaglyph image through to that eye while the cyan blue green lens over the right eye allows only the blue and green parts of the image through to that eye Portions of the image that are red will appear dark through the cyan filter while portions of colors composed only of green and blue will appear dark through the red filter Each eye therefore sees only the perspective it is supposed to see Red sharpened anaglyph glasses Simple paper uncorrected gel glasses cannot compensate for the 250 nanometer difference in the wave lengths of the red cyan filters With simple glasses the red filtered image is somewhat blurry when viewing a close computer screen or printed image The RED retinal focus differs from the image through the CYAN filter which dominates the eyes focusing Better quality molded acrylic glasses frequently employ a compensating differential diopter power a spherical correction to balance the red filter focus shift relative to the cyan which reduces the innate softness and diffraction of red filtered light Low power reading glasses worn along with the paper glasses also sharpen the image noticeably The correction is only about 1 2 diopter on the red lens However some people with corrective glasses are bothered by difference in lens diopters as one image is a slightly larger magnification than the other Though endorsed by many 3D websites the diopter fix effect is still somewhat controversial Some especially the nearsighted find it uncomfortable There is about a 400 improvement in acuity with a molded diopter filter and a noticeable improvement of contrast and blackness The American Amblyopia Foundation uses this feature in their plastic glasses for school screening of children s vision judging the greater clarity as a significant plus factor Plastic anaglyph glasses can employ diopter correction for improved viewing Anachrome filters Plastic glasses developed in recent years provide both the diopter fix noted above and a change in the cyan filter The formula provides intentional leakage of a minimal 2 percentage of red light with the conventional range of the filter This assigns two eyed redness cues to objects and details such as lip color and red clothing that are fused in the brain Care must be taken however to closely overlay the red areas into near perfect registration or ghosting can occur Anachrome formula lenses work well with black and white but can provide excellent results when the glasses are used with conforming anachrome friendly images The US Geological Survey has thousands of these conforming full color images which depicts the geology and scenic features of the U S National Park system By convention anachrome images try to avoid excess separation of the cameras and parallax thereby reducing the ghosting that the extra color bandwidth introduces to the images Anaglyph from monochrome images Traditional anaglyph processing methods B W anaglyph image of Zagreb taken using one camera Images were taken about 2m 7ft apart to get the 3D effect One monochromatic method uses a stereo pair available as a digitized image along with access to general purpose image processing software In this method the images are run through a series of processes and saved in an appropriate transmission and viewing format such as JPEG Color anaglyph taken using two cameras about 40cm 16in apart for enhanced depth effect Several computer programs will create color anaglyphs without Adobe Photoshop or a traditional more complex compositing method can be used with Photoshop Using color information it is possible to obtain reasonable but not accurate blue sky green vegetation and appropriate skin tones Color information appears disruptive when used for brightly colored and or high contrast objects such as signs toys and patterned clothing when these contain colors that are close to red or cyan Anaglyphic processes cannot always reconstruct full color 3D images Colors which are combinations of red green yellow and red blue magenta reproduce However to get full color photos or movies a polarizing filter system or an adapted Russian LCD shutter system must be used Polarizing filters steer the vibrations of light analogous to the effect of a window blind Two synchronized projectors overlap the images into an aluminum screen The shutter system on the other hand switches back and forth rapidly for left and right eye images synchronized to the image input alternating so fast that the eye cannot detect the changes This is similar to how LCD shutter glasses work According to entertainme
nt trade papers 3D movies are now more popular than ever The modern processes allow maximum comfort and minimum eyestrain 3D provides an entertainment experience still not possible with television though certain experimental processes the quasi holographic volumetric displays have been used for example to show real images of cars in a display setting with no viewing glasses required Depth adjustment The adjustment suggested in this section is applicable to any type of stereogram but is particularly appropriate when anaglyphed images are to be viewed on a computer screen or on printed matter Image as originally presented by NASA with foreground spilling from the frame This is a two color red cyan anaglyph from the Mars Pathfinder mission To view use a red filter for the left eye and a cyan filter for the right eye Note that the distant mountain images are aligned placing them at the screen and the confusing appearance in the lower right corner Image adjusted so that most objects appear to be beyond the frame Note that the mountain images are now separated when viewed without the glasses This follows the rule for a red left eye filter when distant objects are beyond the image plane RRR Red to Right Receding for dark objects on lighter background in the image as it appears without wearing the filters Those portions of the left and right images that are coincident will appear to be at the surface of the screen Depending upon the subject matter and the composition of the image it may be appropriate to make this align to something slightly behind the nearest point of the principal subject as when imaging a portrait This will cause the near points of the subject to pop out from the screen For best effect any portions of a figure to be imaged forward of the screen surface should not intercept the image boundary as this can lead to a discomforting amputated appearance It is of course possible to create a three dimensional pop out frame surrounding the subject in order to avoid this condition Shelf edge at screen depth If the subject matter is a landscape you may consider putting the frontmost object at or slightly behind the surface of the screen This will cause the subject to be framed by the window boundary and recede into the distance Once the adjustment is made trim the picture to contain only the portions containing both left and right images In the example shown above the upper image appears in a visually disruptive manner to spill out from the screen with the distant mountains appearing at the surface of the screen In the lower modification of this image the red channel has been translated horizontally to bring the images of the nearest rocks into coincidence and thus appearing at the surface of the screen and the distant mountains now appear to recede into the image This latter adjusted image appears more natural appearing as a view through a window onto the landscape Monochrome version Scene composition In the toy images to the right the shelf edge was selected as the point where images are to coincide and the toys were arranged so that only the central toy was projecting beyond the shelf When the image is viewed the shelf edge appears to be at the screen and the toy s feet and snout project toward the viewer creating a pop out effect Dual purpose 2D or 3D compatible anaglyph technique Since the advent of the Internet a variant technique has developed where the images are specially processed to minimize visible mis registration of the two layers This technique is known by various names the most common associated with diopter glasses and warmer skin tones is Anachrome The technique allows most images to be used as large thumbnails while the 3D information is encoded into the image with less parallax than conventional anaglyphs Applications In DVD Blu Ray home release of theatrical 3D films Disney studios released Hannah Montana Miley Cyrus Best of Both Worlds Concert in August 2008 its first Blu ray 3D disc This was shown on the Disney Channel with red cyan paper glasses in July 2008 The greater clarity of Blu ray and the learning curve at Disney has greatly improved red cyan anaglyph especially in relation to close overlay of the 3D images such as they have followed in their animation projects Most Disney theatrical 3D images show far less mal registration compared to old fashioned polarized or anaglyph technique In comics 3 D Glasses distributed with special Batman comic books between 1953 and 1964 These techniques have been used to produce 3 dimensional comic books mostly during the early 1950s using carefully constructed line drawings printed in colors appropriate to the filter glasses provided The material presented were typically short graphic novels of a war story horror or crime detective nature similar in content to some modern Japanese manga These genres were largely eliminated in the US by the rise of the Comics Code Authority Anaglyphed images were of little interest for use in the remaining comics which emphasized bright and colorful images unsuited for use with the viewing and production methods available at the time which were usually red green rather than red cyan In fine arts Some maintainers of Internet web sites have added depth information to images of famous paintings further processing these to produce color anaglyph 3D images In science and mathematics The single valued function of two variables z x y x2 y3 with the function value displayed as the height Three dimensional display can also be used to display scientific data sets or to illustrate mathematical functions Anaglyph images are suitable both for paper presentation and non moving video display They can easily be included in science books and viewed with cheap anaglyph glasses Also chemical structures particularly for large syste

Tote Bags – An Introduction

September 3rd, 2011 Filed under: Glass by arnasati

A tote bag is described as a large or roomy hand held bag (usually slung over the shoulders) to carry everyday items such as books, make up essentials and others. Usually, The word ‘tote’, which means ‘to carry’ can be mapped out all the way to the 17th century and was used liberally from the 20th century onwards.

Totes are handbags which are multi-tasked – and are a true American classic, and also popular the world over. A typical tote has within it, all sorts of items to cater to woman’s daily needs.

The elementary design of a tote is really quite basic; and typical outlines consist of one primary pocket, (sometimes with insets and dividers) and have closures of zippers, magnets or ties at the top apertures. The long strap handles are normally uncomplicated for easy hand-carrying or slung casually over one’s shoulders.

Fabrics and materials used to produce tote bags differ greatly. The more casual ones are usually rendered in canvas, basket weave, leather or denim. Because of a tote’s spacious planes, manufacturers more often than not display elaborate designs and prints on them, making them not just functional, but attention-grabbing.

]]>

Totes are especially useful for those who have a lot of things and do not have time to disseminate each item. From casual totes to business ones, each provides a multitude of roles, both independently or combined.

Although totes can look bulky and lumbering because of its superior size, it is this fact that makes it so appealing in the first place. A large tote can accommodate everything you would need to get through a day; from keys to wallets and extra pair of clothing, the tote bag is the universal symbol for the busy woman of today.

The inclination of the early tote bag can be traced back to 1944 with LL Bean’s introduction of the Boat Bag, meant for the boater crowd. The simple yet functional design quickly caught on, and designers began constructing different versions to make them more fashionable. Totes then were fused into the luggage market, and the leather travel tote became a world-wide sensation.

In the 1950s, totes became more popular and garnered momentum due to their practicality. As women began needing more things, the tote bag was perfect to accommodate these needs.

In the 1960s, Coach, a famous brand name designed by Bonnie Cashin. This created fashion fervor, and thousands upon thousands were sold almost immediately after hitting the fashion racks. In the 90s, designer Kate Spade used ultra feminine designs and made the tote an essential yet trendy bag for ladies of all ages. Like any successful fashion item, the Kate Spade tote bag was imitated in hundreds of variations, and is now a staple with women everywhere.

A good tote bag can accommodate all your essentials without appearing too heavy. The compartments inside can be used to store smaller items such as keys and wallets, whilst the main body can necessitate all your other items. The classic tote bag will always be similar in shape; what changes would most probably be the materials and designs. It will remain an essential article for a long time to come.

Tiffany Window Panels, Your Rooms Finishing Touch

September 3rd, 2011 Filed under: Glass by arnasati

Article by Craig Tucker

Make your den or kitchen the most colorful place in your home with a stained glass window panel. Dancing shadows of shifting light, prisms of brilliant colors streaming through your den or kitchen created by the sun flowing through a beautiful tiffany window. Light so beautiful and elegant changing every moment creating new designs as it fills your favorite room. That is the charm of a stained glass window panel.

It’s always been assumed that a vase full of colorful flowers or a bowl full of fruit is the finishing touch for your living room, den or dining room. You would be right if they were shaped into a beautiful lasting tiffany window or stained glass window panel.

For hundreds of years painted windows (stained glass window panels) have been adorning the windows of churches, offices, and homes in every corner of the world. Around the turn of the 19th century, Louis Comfort Tiffany along with his chemist developed a new method of fusing metals and pigments into molten glass resulting in richer more vibrant colored Opalescent, Translucent and Iridescent style used in today’s stained glass design.

(A more thorough description of the history and origins of painted glass and the ancient arts of the stained glass window panels can be found in the Catholic Encyclopedia).

Stained glass window panels are a virtual kaleidoscope of designs that include scenes of colorful flowers, fruit bowls, birds, animals, forest and shimmering ocean scenes. There are many design options available from round stained glass windows to square, tall, wide and octagon shapes. You even have the option of working with a stained glass design manufacture to create a custom stained glass window panel for your business, bar, office, or club. Stained glass designs are endless, limited only by the cost and or imagination of the stained glass window designers.

Many people refer to these beautiful creations as tiffany windows. One Stained Glass Window company defines Tiffany as:

A. Style referring to Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Victorian or scenes of nature.

B. The copperfoil technique of stained glass assembly.

C. Opalescent glass invented by Louis Comfort Tiffany 1848-1933, son of Charles Lewis Tiffany, an American jeweler.

This brought about the use of “Tiffany Window” or “Tiffany Stain Glass Window”.

It’s no wonder that stained glass window panels have such a huge following and are so popular. They have been a part of human history in one form or another for over two thousand years.

However you prefer to call them, Stained glass window panels or Tiffany windows, they are the perfect complement to any room design and the finishing touch to your living room, den or family room. Beautiful tiffany window panels will brighten your mornings, soften the heat of the afternoon sun with a prism of brilliant colors and give you lasting enjoyment through every season of the year.

Stained glass window panels come in a variety of styles and shapes including round, square, wide, tall and oval. There are left and right stain glass window corner brackets available as well. Many times stained glass window panels hang in middle of your window or hung so several stained glass window panels can hang side by side.

Tiffany Windows, Measuring for a perfect fit:

Some people buy Tiffany window panels to fit an entire window space. If you are looking to have custom glass window panels made to fit inside a window space getting a right measurement might be important to you. The following will help you achieve the proper fit for your new stained glass window panels.

· Height is measured from the top of the window to the bottom of the window.

· Width is measured from the extreme left window edge to the extreme right window edge.

Consider that your window might not be completely square. As with hanging mini blinds, take 3 different measurements at the top, middle and bottom of the window space. This will insure that your Tiffany window panels will have the best fit possible.

Lasting Timeless Beauty versus Cost

Cost will usually be a factor in deciding which style or shape of stained glass window panel or Tiffany Window you choose. For a nice well made stained glass window panel you can expect to pay as little as 0 to 0 and they go up from there to 0 to 00, but can cost as much as 00 and more. In the early 1900′s a large Stain Glass Window Panel could cost around 0 to 0 with the smaller Stained Glass Window Panels costing around to . The price of a beautiful Stained Glass Window Panel hasn’t changed much in the last hundred plus years if you take into account the rise of inflation.

When you consider the cost of a Tiffany Window Panel as they did a hundred years ago, consider also their lasting timeless beauty. The years of enjoyment you will receive from having a Tiffany Glass Window may be well worth the investment.

It’s Not Just Tiffany, It’s You!

Whenever the water heater leaks the question is to fix it or to buy a new one? Most of the people just storm to the shop and acquire the new one or call a service in desperate panic for hot water. But no matter how old it is, if overhauling is done properly it will work well and reliably as well as new. To make that happen, broken non functional parts must be replaced by a number of new parts which require considerable funding.

Considering that criteria, each owner of broken boiler decide what to do, and of course service provider will try to persuade you to buy another fancy one. The comparison will be correct if the remanufactured boiler has all new parts. The only thing that you will retain is its old paneling. To make calculations, “put on paper” don’t be lazy and go out to collect the prices of various components, in various shops. Of course, the prices vary from store to store.

Change water tank; Corrosion, over time, eroded its entire inner surface and the hole through which water leaks is only the first in a series of repairs. By the way it’s better to buy entirely new tank than to try to fix a old one. Therefore you may happen to weld a tank and after a month it leak again. Today you can get chromium or stainless steel tanks that may leak only if their joints are not welded well.

Choose heater and install it in proper place; Selection of the heater must be adequate. You must install heater whose power is equal to or less than declared value for the water heater. If you install the heater with less power as a result you will have a slower heating but not lower water temperature in the boiler. Usually installed heater is one of 2 kW. Also, in chromium tank you should install only chromium or nickel heater. Copper is not a good choice. Between chromium sheet and copper tube of the heater is created a chemical reaction that leads to thinning of the heater tubes wall.  If you do install such a heater expect that you will have to change it with new one every 6 months. Every removing of the heater after a long time requires the replacement of old rubber. In addition there should be three small rubber ring-shaped rubbers in package .Two are used for contacts of the heater and the third for sealing pipe in which probes are placed.

Buy good quality security valves; All security (check) valves are the same structure but not the same quality. Quality valve releases water from the tank only when its pressure exceeds the 8 atmosphere.  On the market there are bad valves which leak and release water at the lesser pressure. With these valves you will occasionally ( or always) have a leaking problem depending on the current water pressure in pipes.

Install new thermo regulator; Thermo regulator is factory calibrated to maintain the temperature between 35 and 85 ° C. It is enough to turn the lever when buying from left to right several times and you will needs to hear the closing and opening of contacts.  Thermo - fuse has contacts which are in normal position closed. When the water temperature exceeds 90 ° C, these contacts are opened and will not return to its original position even when the water temperature drops. They have to be manually reversed into working position. In very old types this requires a screwdriver and for new it is enough to press a certain key.

Apply insulation; Conductors must be insulated with heat resistant silicone with surface section 2.5 mm2.  The average length for the replacement of all the wires in the boiler takes about 3 meters.

Repaint plating; If the plating tank is aged, jaundiced, or you want to make your water heater another color besides white, you can paint it. There is also expensive solution to install tank inside ceramic plating which will look classy but also it will be quite a class of a price.

Tips:

In fact, you do not have to paint the boiler casing if you think it still look decent. You do not need to change thermo regulator or thermo switch if they are correct. This applies to the safety valve also but it is recommended to replace it yet because of accumulated lime in it. Also, you don’t need to change conductors if you do not see any visible damage on them. So, the conclusion would be that, in economic terms, certainly it is worth to repair the water heater if you know what you have to and what you don’t have to repair or buy.

Warning:

All of the above is quite easy to do if you have boiler which have insulating glass wool. Newer water heaters have isolation in the form of foam and when it leaks you need to buy a new one.
